Vienna's splendour in the land of the Aztecs

It all began with the second Mexican empire under Maximilian von Habsburg (1964-1867). Since then, the presence and influence of the dual monarchy in and in the architecture of Mexico has been unimaginable without it ever since.

The reorientation under President Porfirio Díaz (1876-1911) meant a separation from the sphere of influence of the United States in favour of the country's own development according to European models in all facets of culture.

The music resulting from this period is characterised by the lightness and elegance of the salons and clubs where Mexico's high society met, by the passion of Mexican poetry and by the soul of the people, which gave the music of the period its unmistakable style.

An invitation to discover a world that is still present in the mysterious streets of the Mexican capital, through operetta classics from the Dual Monarchy by Johann Strauss, Franz Léhar, Carl Millöcker and others.
The programme also includes works by composers such as Manuel M. Ponce and Jorge del Moral, whose musical activities took them to Germany (Munich, Berlin and Leipzig).
