Andris Nelsons conducts the Gewandhaus Orchestra in a concert program that combines different perspectives on classical symphonies. For this, he uses Mendelssohn's Piano Concerto in G minor, interpreted by Seong-Jin Cho, to build a bridge between Haydn's Symphony “The Philosopher” and Brahms' Symphony No. 3. While the outer movements of the piano concerto are stormy showpieces for the soloist, the slow middle movement opens up an expansive romantic idea in which the orchestra and soloist revel together.
