Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy died on November 4, 1847 in what is now the Mendelssohn House at the age of just 38. To mark the hour of his death, Antonín Dvořák's “Biblical Songs” will be performed by René Pape and Elena Bashkirova - impressive music between thoughtfulness and consolation. The songs are interwoven with the movements of Mendelssohn's A minor String Quartet, played by the Grieg Quartet Leipzig, in which the composer found the artistic completion of his early work and faced up to the inner discourse with the music of Beethoven.
