NOTHING OLD UNDER THE SUN!
Dongkyu Leo Kim and Juae Ha (South Korea) play piano works for four hands by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Leopold Schefer and Robert Schumann.
In memory of Bernd-Ingo Friedrich (1952-2024)
At the invitation of the Schillerverein Leipzig e.V., the renowned Korean pianists Juae Ha and Dongkyu Leo Kim, both graduates of the Berlin University of the Arts, will present a special four-hand piano programme in Leipzig's Mendelssohn House. At the centre of the concert is the rediscovery of the Symphony in E flat major by the poet-composer Leopold Schefer from Lusatia, which was praised by Robert Schumann but has perhaps never been performed and has only survived as a four-hand piano score, as well as a piano song composed by Prince Pückler-Muskau's secretary on Mendelssohn's death in 1847. The writer and cultural historian Bernd-Ingo Friedrich, who died in January, intensively researched the work and life of Leopold Schefer, who was also in contact with Mendelssohn. This concert is intended to commemorate him.
Dr Hansjörg Rothe, board member of the Schiller Society, will remember Bernd-Ingo Friedrich and introduce Leopold Schefer.
