Anne-Sophie Mutter
Anne-Sophie Mutter deserves to be
awarded this prize (PDF, 370 kB) due to her unique musicality and interpretational gift. In addition, just like Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, she commits herself in an outstanding way to a historical repertoire as well as to modern works. It should also be mentioned that she is a great encourager and supporter of young musicians, another fact that links her to Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, the founder of the first music conservatory.
Peter Sloterdijk
Peter Sloterdijk (PDF, 370 kB) is an example of how to see questions that arise today in the context of their history. This allows him to determine the current "condition humaine" from a variety of new points of view. Thus, he can let us see things in a new light and in new, surprising contexts. In a similar way, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy stood for incorporating the then known traditions of German music in one person, seeing them from completely new perspectives, enriching them with his own compositions and passing them on to posterity.
